Grading

I am enrolled in the MasterTrack courses, are there course deadlines/due dates?

MasterTrack courses have a fixed schedule, which means you need to complete all your coursework during a specific time period. Courses have hard deadlines which you can't reset. You may be able to switch sessions if you fall behind.

If I do not receive a 70% on an assignment, can I re-do it to improve my grade?

All assignments must be completed with 70% or higher in order to pass the course.

Yes, learners can re-do assignments until they receive the required 70%. Assignments include quizzes, discussion posts, Photovoice submissions, and writing assignments. Some assignments are graded via peer reviews. Learners may not be able to receive an updated peer review on their assignments until the next section of the course begins. Will our grades for the Social Work Essentials/ MasterTrack courses be reflected on our transcripts?

No, the Social Work Essentials Certificate and MasterTrack Certificate program courses are not reflected on your transcript as they are not credit bearing and occur prior to starting the MSW degree program.

Do the courses for the Social Work Essentials or MasterTrack Certificate have a required practicum site? If yes, is there support for finding a field placement?

No, the certificate programs do not require a field placement (practicum). Students will be required to engage in a field placement once enrolled in the MSW degree program and the Office of Field Education will assist in setting up a placement.
How many internship hours are required in the MSW program after completion of the Social Work Essentials or MasterTrack Certificate?

Students will complete 900 hours for the MSW degree.

Are Social Work Essentials/ MasterTrack MSW students eligible for grants and scholarships?

Social Work Essentials MSW and MasterTrack MSW students can apply for need and merit-based grants and scholarships when they begin taking MSW courses. More information about financial aid can be found here.
Are special scholarships programs available for Social Work Essentials/ MasterTrack MSW students?

Yes, Social Work Essentials MSW and MasterTrack MSW students may apply and participate in any special scholarship program available for their program if they meet special program criteria.
Can Social Work Essentials/ MasterTrack MSW students apply for loans?

Yes, Social Work Essentials MSW and MasterTrack MSW students may submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid to apply for federal loans for the terms that they are enrolled at the University of Michigan in the MSW program.
