Interested in Becoming a Field Instructor?

Are you interested in becoming a Field Instructor? Would you like your agency to host a masters of social work student?

The Office of Field Education is always looking for new field placements for our students. Students benefit from working with dedicated professionals who can show them what it means to be a professional social worker. Social work agencies can benefit from having an extra, eager set of hands to help move the goals of your agency forward. As a Field Instructor you will have other benefits, including access to free continuing education courses through the University of Michigan, access to U-M library resources and opportunities to network with U-M Faculty and other U-M affiliated social work agencies.

All sites must have a qualified, credentialed social worker with an MSW, a minimum 2 years post-MSW experience and a State of Michigan LMSW.

Prospective Agency Forms

To start the process of becoming an approved agency, please email ssw-fieldoffice@umich.edu or fill out the forms below. Return them to the Office of Field Education via fax (734) 763-4885 or email. Our Administrative Coordinator will contact you to set up an approval site visit. During this visit, we will want to meet with all prospective field instructors, understand the site’s mission and programs/staffing, discuss student supervision and review expectations regarding the field curriculum. We will also review your forms and provide a mini orientation. If your agency is approved it will be included in the next student placement cycle.

After you have submitted these forms, please review the Field Instructor Orientation & Information Manual.
