Graduate Fellowships and Assistantships

Pre-MSW Fellowships

The School of Social Work Office of Student Services and Enrollment Management and the Career Services Office hires Pre-MSW Fellows to work in the areas of recruitment, admissions, student services, and career services. These in-person positions offer full tuition for a minimum of two semesters with possibility for continuation based upon satisfactory performance in the position.

The Pre-MSW Fellow application for Fall 2024 has closed. Applications for students beginning in Fall 2025 will be available in August 2024.

Graduate Assistantships

Graduate Student Instructor and Graduate Student Staff Assistant Positions

Each year, MSW students are employed by other U-M departments and offices on campus in GSI or GSSA positions. While the School of Social Work does not typically hire GSSAs, sometimes students are able to work their GSSA positions in the School of Social Work (ex. Rackham Graduate School may fund GSSAs to work in the School of Social Work Diversity Equity and Inclusion Office). Please visit the U-M Careers at the U website for a listing of graduate student appointments throughout the University.

Graduate Student Instructor (GSI) positions at the School of Social Work are not available to MSW students.

Graduate Student Research Assistant Positions

Graduate Student Research Assistant (GSRA) positions at the School of Social Work are available to doctoral students.
