Creating the Solution: How MSW Student Emily Janas Balances Self-Care with Puzzles

“There are two buckets of self-care in social work,” MSW student Emily Janas said, “The first is finding enjoyable activities outside of your obligations; the second is self-care within the context of work. Crosswords are part of that first bucket, and that’s how I fill my cup back up. You can’t pour from an empty cup.”

Remembering Larry Copp

Larry Coppard, emeritus professor of social work, passed away on April 7, 2025. Coppard worked at the U-M for about 40 years and during that time served at the Marsal Family School of Education, the Institute of Gerontology and the School of Social Work.
