Master of Social Work (MSW)
The MSW program offers flexible options, online or on campus, full-time or part-time, allowing students to complete their degree in 12 to 28 months. Whether you want the connection of an in-person Ann Arbor experience or the convenience of online learning from anywhere, you can choose the format that best fits your needs.
Master of Arts in Social Impact Leadership (MA)
The Master of Arts in Social Impact Leadership is built for people who want to learn leadership skills that drive change across public, nonprofit and private sectors. This 30-credit, two-semester program blends community-based project work, industry mentorship and a curriculum rooted in social justice values.
Undergraduate Applications
Community Action & Social Change Undergraduate (CASC) Minor
The CASC minor helps undergraduates build skills for meaningful work in social justice and community engagement. This 16-credit program welcomes students from across many of U-M’s schools and provides a collaborative path to understanding and advancing positive change.
CASC Minor & Social Work
U-M undergraduates in the CASC Minor can enter the MSW program through an accelerated trajectory that lets them take MSW courses during their senior year and reduce the total credits needed for the degree. This option provides a faster route to an MSW while building strong skills in social justice, advocacy and community engagement.
U‑M Sociology & Social Work
U-M sociology undergraduates can streamline their path to social work through a partnership that allows them to complete a BA and an MSW more quickly and at lower cost. The program blends sociological insight with practical skills in advocacy and social justice, leading to strong employment outcomes for graduates.
UM-Dearborn Human Services and Social Work
Students in UM-Dearborn's human services major can enter the MSW program in Ann Arbor with a streamlined curriculum that provides a strong foundation for advancing equity and justice. This 45-credit option lowers the time and cost of earning an MSW and connects students to high employment outcomes and extensive scholarship opportunities.
PhD Applications
PhD in Social Work & Social Welfare
The PhD in Social Work and Social Welfare is for MSW graduates seeking a research career grounded in social justice and equity. The program takes a transdisciplinary approach to studying societal problems and developing solutions that drive meaningful change.
Joint PhD in Social Work & Social Science
Joint PhD students join a small community of scholars who work across disciplines to address complex social issues through rigorous research. They earn an interdisciplinary degree in social work and one of three social science fields, preparing them to study and serve diverse communities.
