The U-M School of Social Work has created an opportunity for U-M undergraduate students who have declared the CASC Minor to enter the MSW program through an accelerated pathway. The U-M CASC Minor & Social Work program allows admitted students to take MSW courses during the senior year of their undergraduate program. These courses are able to count toward both the undergraduate degree and reduce the amount of credits needed to complete the MSW degree. Once in the MSW program, U-M CASC Minor & Social Work students need to complete just 45-credits for the MSW degree, which can be completed as quickly as 12-months (full time).

Why CASC & Social Work?

  • Develop an understanding of diversity, research, discrimination, oppression and the skills to advocate for social and economic justice
  • Promote social justice through direct service and advocacy on the local, national and global levels
  • Earn your bachelor’s degree in four years and your MSW with just three semesters of classes saving time and tuition
  • Earn your MSW from the #1 school in the country (U.S. News & World Reports)

How to Apply?

Interested students must be current undergraduate students at the U-M Ann Arbor campus with a declared major and CASC Minor.

  1. Declare an undergraduate major and declare the CASC Minor.
  2. Complete CASC Minor requirements as a U-M undergraduate.
  3. Apply for admission to the MSW program during your Junior year. Application deadline: February 1
    • CASC Minor & Social Work applicants must upload verification to their MSW application that they are eligible for the curriculum schedule. Email the verification form to the office below, requesting that an advisor complete the form and return it to you. The completed form then must be uploaded to your MSW application.
  4. Once admitted, you will take four MSW classes in addition to finishing the CASC Minor, as well as your bachelor’s degree in your school or college during your senior year.

Note: CASC Minor students who are not able to complete the U-M CASC Minor & Social Work program are still eligible to apply for CASC Preferred MSW Admission in their junior year.
