Does the School of Social Work offer online courses/distance learning?
No. All courses must be taken at the School of Social Work in Ann Arbor. We do, however, allow for students to complete field placements outside of Ann Arbor, so commuter students would only need to travel to the school a few days each week for courses.
Is housing available at the University of Michigan?
The University of Michigan offers limited on-campus housing for eligible graduate students. Non-University housing includes co-ops, apartments, and houses for rent. Most students live off campus within walking distance of the School of Social Work. For more information on housing visit the U-M Housing website.
I live out-of-state, how can I easily find a place to live? Or find a roommate?
You can easily find a place to live through various websites or online newspaper listings. It is always recommended that you look at your housing arrangements in person before you sign a lease. How many of the students are awarded scholarships or financial assistance?
About 90% of the MSW class apply for and receive some form of grant and/or scholarship assistance.
How is financial aid awarded to MSW students?
The School of Social Work Office of Student Services and Enrollment Management provides grant and scholarship assistance. The University Office of Financial Aid provides loans and work study awards. Can I have a job while I am at school full time?
Most students work part time (10-20 hours per week) when enrolled in the full-time program. Many students apply for and receive work-study funds.
How do I apply for work-study?
To apply for a work-study award, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The University Office of Financial Aid will provide you a work-study award if you meet the eligibility requirements and if funds are available at the time that you apply. Students awarded work-study may apply for work-study jobs as listed on the Student Employment Office job posting site. (These jobs are not available to students without work-study.) Students may also post their information and a resume on the SSW temporary employment website. This information is available to SSW faculty and staff who hire work-study employees.

Are jobs available on the college campus?
Yes, positions are listed at the U-M Student Employment Office website. You should also fill out the SSW Student Employment Application Form to be placed in a candidate pool for employment in the School of Social Work at.
What is the estimated cost of attendance for the MSW Program?
The 2018-2019 student budget for tuition, fees, room, board, books, supplies, and personal expenses is $51,412 for Michigan residents; $68,112 for non residents for two semesters of full-time enrollment. The Regents of the University set tuition and fees in July of each year; so costs are subject to increase each year.
