How much are tuition and fees for the MSW Program?

How do I apply for financial aid?
You must do the following:
- Submit a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application and include the U-M Code (002325). The FAFSA can be submitted online at: https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa
- Submit the School of Social Work Financial Aid Form with the online application or mail to:

What scholarship opportunities are available for the MSW Program?
There are numerous scholarship opportunities. The School offers Dean’s Scholarships, which are awarded based on the undergraduate GPA of incoming students (as calculated for admissions review purposes) in addition to a strong commitment to the mission of the School of Social Work. The School also offers Merit Scholarships based on strong academic and/or social work-related experience or based on a strong commitment to the mission of the School. No separate application is necessary for applicants to be reviewed for these awards. Several other named scholarships are also awarded based upon information in applications and supporting documentation.
The School also offers Michigan Scholarships, which are based on a combination of merit and need as well as Opportunity Grants which are based primarily on need. Michigan Scholarships and Opportunity Grants require the submission of the School of Social Work Financial Aid Form and the FAFSA to the University of Michigan (code: 002325).
If a student wants to be considered for the Child Welfare Scholarship Program, Community Scholars: Community-Based Initiative in Detroit, Community Scholars: National Community Scholars, Geriatric Scholarship Program, Global Activities Scholars Program, Integrated Health with Medically Underserved Populations, Jewish Communal Leadership Program, or New Leaders in African-Centered Social Work Scholars Program, there is a separate application specific to each special program.

Should I wait until I have been admitted to apply for financial aid for the MSW Program?
No. It is best for students to apply for financial aid as soon as possible. The School of Social Work Financial Aid Form should be submitted with the MSW application. The FAFSA is available each October. Be sure to review special program deadlines.
How do I apply to a special program?
If you would like to apply to a special program, then please answer "yes" to the question, "Do you plan to apply to an SSW Special Program?" found on the Financial Assistance page of the MSW online application and then check the special program checkbox of the program to which you wish to apply. The special program application pages will be added to the end of your online MSW application. Call 734-936-0961 if you are unable to submit the application via the online MSW application system.
Application deadlines are December 1 (early application), February 1 (priority), and March 1. Selection of applicants will be made from all dates with priority given to those applicants that meet the December and February deadlines. Your MSW application must be complete by the scholarship application deadline.
Are International students eligible to apply for financial aid?
International MSW applicants may apply for scholarship (merit) aid from the School of Social Work. International students also may be interested in applying to a special program (Child Welfare Scholarship Program, Community-Based Initiative in Detroit, Geriatric Scholarship Program, Global Activities Scholars Program, Integrated Health Scholarship Program, Jewish Communal Leadership Program, National Community Scholars Program, or New Leaders in African-Centered Social Work. Where is the School of Social Work located?
The School of Social Work Building is located at 1080 South University in Ann Arbor, Michigan 48109; this is at the corner of South University and East University.
Where are classes held?
Most Social Work classes are held in the School of Social Work Building. Some classes are held in the School of Education Building (SEB) which is connected to the School. Classes are also held in the Family Assessment Clinic which is located on South University and is within walking distance of the School
Do I need a car?
Bringing a car with you is not required, but is strongly encouraged. Having a car significantly enhances your field internship opportunities.
Can I take the bus? What bus routes are available?
The Ann Arbor Transit Authority operates many bus routes within the city as well as between Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti. These buses are free for students to use with a valid ID.
