  1. NASW-Michigan: Legislative Education and Advocacy Day (LEAD) 2017

    November 1, 2017 - 9:00am to 4:15pm

    Join together with hundreds of social justice advocates from around Michigan for the largest annual gathering of social workers in the state! This all-day event features two inspiring keynote addresses, networking opportunities, social justice forums, and over twenty workshops on legislative issues, political action, and advocacy efforts. Lunch is included in the registration cost.

  3. CASC/MSW Writing Workshop

    November 1, 2017 - 5:30pm to 7:30pm

    This event is for current CASC students who are applying to the MSW program at the University of Michigan. Students will have the opportunity to review their MSW application essays with CASC alumni who are currently students in the MSW program.   5. SSW Career Services Presents: Seneca Family of Agencies Recruiting Event

    Seneca (located in the Bay area) established itself as an innovative leader in the provision of unconditional care through a comprehensive continuum of school, community-based and family-focused treatment services for children and families who have experienced high levels of trauma and are at risk for family disruption or institutional placement of the children.   7. Working with Couples in Therapy

    November 2, 2017 - 5:00pm to 8:00pm

    This mini-course is designed to familiarize students with the current theories of couple therapy. Selected empirically supported models utilized in couple therapy will be examined The course also looks at some of the key issues and challenges faced by therapists who provide couple therapy. This mini-course will be skill based and focus on helping students to learn effective approaches to working with couples in therapy.

  8. Introduction to Political Social Work

    November 3, 2017 - 9:00am to 4:00pm

    This course provides participants with an introduction to political social work, which is social work practice, theory, and research that focuses on the use of policy and politics to create social change. Participants will discuss case studies that illustrate how politics impact the lives of those served on both a micro and macro level as well as explore the ways in which social workers from the case studies must engage with policy and political systems to create change. Participants will also gain the tools to implement political social work skills into their practice as well as techniques to effectively advocate to policymakers.

  10. Going on the Market Part 1: Resumes and Marketing Management Skills

    Preparing to go on the job market can be stressful.  Join Sue Ann Savas and Barb Hiltz as we share the ideas and tips we have collected from students and employers over the years. Discussion topics include:

    How do you describe your experiences as relevant in another context? 

    How do you help a potential employer see you as the most qualified applicant? 

    Should you negotiate your offer? (Yes! We will explore how.) 

    How do you communicate the importance of your macro-level social work skills?  

    Join us, and come with your questions!

    This will be the first of a two-part networking event series in which you will learn about the aforementioned topics in order to prepare for a Networking Event on November 29th.
