Teaching Support: Continuing Instructor Education

to

This fall, the SSW is hosting a regular series of support activities around teaching. These have been designed as a result of requests from faculty.

In recent months, The UM Ann Arbor community has witnessed multiple incidents of hate speech and racist acts. Such incidents reflect a disturbing national trend: a 2016 article in Inside Higher Education referred to “an epidemic of racist incidents at campuses across the country.” These events, and the community’s responses to them, shape the conditions under which students learn and instructors teach. As social workers and instructors, how do we decide whether and how to address such incidents in our classrooms? This workshop provides an opportunity for us to consider multiple methods for engaging with students about campus incidents of hate speech and violence and to reflect on the affordances and challenges of each approach.

These sessions are available to all course instructors. A schedule of dates and events is below.
