Courses in the online program are both synchronous and asynchronous. Per online course each week, students should expect 2 hours of synchronous live course sessions, and around 6.5 hours of asynchronous content (for example: assignments, readings, mini-lectures, videos, discussion boards).
Yes, all students will spend a long weekend in Ann Arbor, MI to start the program and complete an Introduction to Social Work course. Due to COVID-19, online students starting in May 2021 will complete their orientation weekend virtually. Students will also be invited to participate in the in-person graduation ceremony at the end of completing the program, but this is not required.
No, the School Social Work Certificate will not be offered in the Online MSW Program and is only available in our On-Campus MSW Program.
Students completing the Online MSW Program must follow the Interpersonal Practice in Integrated Health, Mental Health, and Substance Abuse Pathway. Additional pathways may be added to the Online Program in the future.

Online students enroll in 5-7 credits each semester for 7 semesters to complete the 45-credit degree program. This includes credits for field placement hours.
Online MSW courses will be offered primarily during evenings (EST) during the week. Students living outside of the Eastern Time Zone will need to make accommodations to attend courses during their listed times.
