Field hours are typically completed in person at a human service organization. Students work with the Office of Field Education to find a placement near them. All field placements sites must be located in the United States.
Student who enter the Online MSW Program through the MasterTrack, MicroMasters, U-M Sociology and Social Work or UM Dearborn Human Services and Social Work programs will complete 16 hours of field work (2 days/week) for four semesters. Advanced Standing eligible students will complete 16 hours of field work (2 days/week) for three semesters.
Yes, however, students may be able to complete and employment-based field placement with their current organization. Students must have a different LMSW supervisor for their field hours, MSW level tasks in line with the competencies required for their pathway, and an affiliation agreement must be established with the University of Michigan and the organization.
