Trauma-Informed Interpersonal Practice with Marginalized Clients
December 1, 2022 - 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM ET
As social workers, it is imperative that we understand that psychotherapy and other forms of interpersonal practice can be biased against BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, those with disabilities, among those with marginalized identities. This session explores how psychotherapy can be biased, and how psychotherapists can and should be more inclusive, trauma-informed, and equity-driven in their practice with diverse clients. Speakers include Jess Kota, Licensed Clinical Social Worker/Therapist at U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs; Vanessa Marr, psychotherapist at Amplify Colectivo; and Anao Zhang, U of M SSW Assistant Professor.

December 2, 2022 - 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM ET
Join the Office of Global Activities and the International Center Peace Corps recruitment office for an hour of coffee and conversation. This month's topic is Self-Care in Isolated Service. Being thousands of miles from your friends and family and constantly adapting to new surroundings can be exhausting and isolating. Mental health is a critical part of our well-being and plays a critical role in our ability to perform the responsibilities asked of us as volunteers. What kind of support will you have as a volunteer? What can you do to best support yourself during this big change? We invite you to this Coffee Chat where you can hear from Returned Volunteers about their experience in service and feel safe to ask questions about mental health issues before, during, and after service. This informal discussion with Returned Peace Corps Volunteers is designed to give you an opportunity to ask questions and hear unique perspectives on an interesting 27 months in Peace Corps.
