Technology Resources for SSW Students

  • Student Technology Resources for Remote Learning
Technology resources for online and remote learning
  • Virtual Sites Computer Labs
You can use Virtual Sites to access U-M's virtual computer lab. Many software titles such as SPSS, Stata, and MPlus are available for use through Virtual Sites.
  • Keep Reading and Researching
Find out how to access Library resources from off campus or via mobile devices. Many library resources are available online even if you are not on campus.
  • Internet Connection Information
    • ITS recommends at least 15 mbps download and 5 mbps upload to prevent common connectivity-related issues. See how to test your network speed.
    • Individuals without a reliable internet connection have a number of free or low-cost options:

      • The SSW Building has open study spaces for SSW students who need access to high speed internet. Please see our Building Hours for more information about access to the SSW Building.

      • Study SpacesStudy Spaces at U-M is a tool designed to help you find and reserve designated study spaces, computer stations, a space for you to take a remote class, or just a dedicated quiet touchdown spot between classes.

      • MWireless is available in nearly all U-M buildings, many of which are accessible via MCard. If building access is unavailable, MWireless is available north of the bus stop in parking lot NC90 off Baxter Road, and in the parking lot north of the Walgreen Center.  MWireless is also available outside on the Diag and the North Campus Grove. See the WiFi coverage map for all university WiFi locations.

      • Check with your local internet providers for discounts. Many are providing free services to qualifying households for a limited time. For example, Comcast and AT&T have low-cost internet plans for qualifying households.

      • See additional resources for Michigan families to get internet during the coronavirus crisis compiled by Bridge Michigan.
