Andrew (Andy) Grogan-Kaylor's research focuses on scientific knowledge development and intervention research on children and families with the aim of reducing violence against children and improving family and child wellbeing. Grogan-Kaylor's current research projects examine parenting behaviors such as physical punishment and parental expressions of emotional warmth and support, and their effects on children's aggression, antisocial behavior, anxiety, and depression. He also examines the dynamic interplay of parenting behaviors and their effects on child health and mental health outcomes across socioeconomic contexts, neighborhoods, and cultures. Professor Grogan-Kaylor is the co-author of the most complete analysis to date of the outcomes associated with spanking: "Spanking and child outcomes: Old controversies and new meta-analyses." Grogan-Kaylor uses both U.S. based and international samples; advanced statistical modeling such as multilevel models and econometric methods; and software such as Stata, R, and GIS software.
