Laura J. Yakas

LEO Intermittent Lecturer

Laura J. Yakas

Dr. Laura Yakas is a recent graduate of the joint program in social work and anthropology, and her (budding) career emphasizes empowering people to meet their social needs – specifically purpose and belonging – in order to heal and harness psychiatrically diagnosable experiences. She views mental illness as a deeply complex social justice issue (rather than merely a clinical issue), and is experienced in teaching about oppression, facilitating anti-oppressive programming, and working in (and researching) non-clinical psychosocial clubhouses.
