  3. From Stress to Satisfaction: Healing Vicarious Trauma, Building Resilience, and Promoting Growth in the Workplace

    June 14, 2018 - 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM ET

Social work can be a demanding and challenging field with significant exposure to stressors and traumas that leave social workers at high risk for vicarious trauma. In addition, many social workers have high levels of empathy and, at times, histories of exposure to traumas themselves that can leave them vulnerable for burnout or secondary traumatic stress. Yet, recent focus on resilience and posttraumatic growth has helped us see unique opportunities present for growth in social work.

This workshop will cover the recent literature supporting the benefits of building resilience for social work. Participants will learn concrete skills they can use in the work place to help find joy and satisfaction in the work and to buffer against the risk for traumatic stress.
