  6. Community Conversation - Navigating Divides: Addressing the Clash Between Conservative Views, Faith, Traditions and Modern Day Social Work Values

    April 23, 2024 - 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM ET

Join us for a timely discussion titled "Navigating Divides: Addressing the Clash Between Conservative Views, Faith, Traditions, and Modern Day Social Work Values."

This conversation will focus on the challenges that social workers with conservative beliefs may face in an increasingly progressive field. We will explore how holding traditional religious or conservative views might impact perceptions of fit and effectiveness within the social work profession. This session is an opportunity to discuss the experiences of feeling excluded due to one's beliefs, the potential for bias, and strategies for navigating professional environments that may feel at odds with personal values.

This is a time for conversation – to share feelings and experiences and talk together as a community.

About the format: With these smaller Community Conversations, our hope is to explore restorative dialogue and build community, creating a space where we are all teachers and learners. We will draw heavily on practices from intergroup dialogue and restorative justice.
