Philanthropy and evaluation can work together to be greater than the sum of their parts, to create a larger impact than they could alone. However, philanthropy and evaluation can also be at odds, with competing values, foci, and expected impacts.
In this panel discussion, we will explore the partnership between philanthropy and evaluation from the viewpoints of foundations and evaluators. We will examine questions such as: How do foundations approach evaluation? How do foundations use evaluation results? How do evaluators work with foundations? How do foundations determine impact?
