Clinical Associate Professor Debra Mattison was awarded a 2022 Provost’s Teaching Innovation Prize. These awards honor faculty who have developed innovative approaches to teaching that incorporate creative pedagogies. Mattison along with a team from U-M’s Center for Interprofessional Education received the award for developing a fully virtual, co-curricular certificate program, for which Michigan Medicine’s Office of Patient Experience connects students with real patients, referred to as patient advisers, and their families. Mattison was also awarded an innovation prize in 2015 for an Interprofessional Education Team-Based Clinical Decision Making course.
Clinical Associate Professor Debra Mattison has been named an Association of Oncology Social Work (AOSW) 2021 Fellow. The fellowship honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the science and practice of psychosocial oncology.
Debra Mattison, Clinical Assistant Professor, is a member of the U-M IPE Foundations Experience Team that received the 2019 Demonstration Model Award at the Midwest Interprofessional Practice, Education, and Research Center (MIPERC) annual conference in Grand Rapids. Frank Ascione of the Center for IPE nominated the 10-member team, which is led by Laura Smith of UM-Flint, in part for "innovative solutions to teaching IPE principles to our large and diverse group of health science students."
Clinical Assistant Professor Deb Mattison received a 2017 Demonstration Model Award from the Midwest Interprofessional Practice, Education, and Research Center, a multi-institution coalition dedicated to incorporating interprofessional health practice with education in the Midwest region. She created the IPE Course Adapter Toolkit, a web-based resource that serves as a “one-stop shop” for instructors interested in converting their existing courses to interprofessional offerings.
Clinical Assistant Professor Debra Mattison is part of the faculty team that created the Interprofessional Education toolkit which is a resource being piloted for faculty interested in converting U-M courses to IPE.
School of Social Work students were part of an interprofessional team training future health care professionals. This course, "Team-based Clinical Decision Making" is being offered for the first time this term to students from the School of Social Work, College of Pharmacy, School of Dentistry, Medical School and School of Nursing. Lecturer Debbie Mattison (part of the course's instructional team) was cited in The University Record article, “Students Seek Health Care Solutions through Interprofessional Teams”.
