Frequently Asked Questions

  1. My organization wants to register several people to take a certificate program. What's the best way to register a group for a CE certificate program?

We recommend that each participant reviews the program schedule and requirements and registers themself individually. Whoever is organizing the group and/or providing payment for the group should contact the Office of Continuing Education by email to coordinate payment. If you are planning to register a large group, we strongly encourage you to set up a call with the Office of Continuing Education to discuss your interest and needs.

  2. Once I am admitted in the MasterTrack MSW, when will I choose my pathway?

Full-time residential students will solidify their chosen pathway when they begin applying for their field placement in May/June prior to starting the program. Students in the Online Part-Time program will all follow the Interpersonal Practice in Integrated Health, Mental Health, & Substance Abuse pathway.

  3. Once I complete the MasterTrack Certificate how long do I have before I need to start the MSW program?

Students need to enter the program within 2 years of completion of the MasterTrack Certificate.

  4. Please see the answers below pertaining to receiving an MSW from an international institution without knowing their accreditation status.

International applicants with a social work or social welfare degree are required to apply as Pre-MSW. Upon offer of admission, the Joint PhD Program will request syllabus information from the degree granting institution for submission to CSWE (Council on Social Work Education). If the MSW degree is equivalent to one earned from an accredited US institution, the admitted student will then be considered Post-MSW.

  5. Should I consider taking a residential program course if I'm an Online MSW program student?

The answer to this is going to be different for different students, and may even differ depending on the class. Some things to consider:

  6. Should I purchase travel insurance?

The University is self insured and therefore does not require any additional insurance on things such as car rentals, and travel. If you purchase insurance on any part of your travel, it will not be reimbursed.

  7. Should I wait until I have been admitted to apply for financial aid for the MSW Program?

No. It is best for students to apply for financial aid as soon as possible. The School of Social Work Financial Aid Form should be submitted with the MSW application. The FAFSA is available each October. Be sure to review special program deadlines.

  8. Should the Supplementary Statement address each topic separately or incorporate them into one cohesive statement?

Please provide one statement which covers all four topics.
