Field Faculty and LEO Lecturer III

Amy C. Burandt

Amy C. Burandt (she / hers) joined the Office of Field Education team on March 15, 2021. Prior to coming on-board at the School of Social Work, her career focused on crisis intervention and suicide prevention, counseling individuals healing from trauma and sexual violence, mental health counseling and creating plans for resiliency and self-care for those in the mental health field. She served as a field instructor for the University of Michigan MSW Program for 14 years. In that time, she also created and managed an internship training program for over a decade.

Burandt spent 16 years working in higher education at U-M providing survivor support and advocacy for those coping with sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking and sexual harassment. In this role, she was responsible for program management and development, supervision of staff, students and interns, and clinical coordination. One of her greatest accomplishments in that role was creating and developing a menu of peer-led support group options for survivor self-care and togetherness.

Burandt has a passion for social justice and social work as a whole. Some of her interest areas include: inclusive teaching, intersectional feminism, sexual violence prevention on college campuses, crisis intervention and suicide prevention, self-care and resilience training, and cultivating kindness in roles of leadership. In her free time, she enjoys live music, travel, cooking, reality television and spending time with her partner and orange tabby.

Burandt earned her BA in psychology from Michigan State University in 2002 and her MSW from the University of Michigan in 2004.

She has presented and moderated panels at regional and national conferences for the American College Personnel Association and various gatherings related to sexual assault.
