  2. Community Conversation: Post Election Reflections & Finding our Path Forward

    November 6, 2024 - 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM ET

The election is just around the corner! We may or may not know the outcome by the day after the election, but no matter where things stand, we anticipate that people may want to come together to talk.

Election results can bring out a full range of emotions. We invite participants to share their feelings and experiences while fostering empathy and understanding. We’ll also explore how we can move forward, and find healing and common ground in our professions and communities, no matter the outcome.  This is a time for open dialogue – to express feelings, raise concerns, and find support as a community.

    About the Format

With these smaller Community Conversations, our goal is to create a restorative space where we can share experiences and learn from one another. The discussion will be guided by practices from intergroup dialogue and restorative justice.
We look forward to seeing you there!

  3. Alumni Webinar Series | Program Evaluation through an Equity Lens

    November 7, 2024 - 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM ET

Note: This course is available for free to U-M SSW alumni as part of our Alumni Webinar Series, which features invited alumni speakers. Please know that non-alumni participants are welcome to register as well!

“The longer you swim in a culture, the more invisible it becomes”. That is why we’re carving out time together to discuss and apply evaluation and learning approaches that are proactively in service of equity. This interactive workshop will investigate common ways white supremacy shows up in program evaluation. Participants will learn how to take an alternative approach to building strong organizational learning cultures and understanding the impact of their work. We will reflect together on the ethical considerations involved in this approach to evaluation and the impact of embedding an equity lens to organizational learning.

    November 10, 2024 - 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM ET

The purpose of the Electoral Wellness (Civic Engagement & Mental/Emotional Wellbeing) series is to invite the SSW DEI community into an ongoing conversation about power and hope during the Fall 2024 election cycle in a way that is meant to build trust and self-awareness. This experiential series will allow SSW students, faculty, and staff to build relationships in a setting that is grounded in restorative justice practices such as trust-building and active listening. This calendar of three sessions will use interactive activities to support participants in engaging in mindfulness and collective visioning as tools to protect hopefulness and plan for a socially just future in the face of uncertainty and political unrest.

    Outcomes: Participants will

Experience Restorative Justice values in practice

Engage in self-awareness by naming feelings through the use of art

Examine power checks and balances within National and State Governments

    Explore electoral hopes and fears

Discuss practices for discussing the election with clients

Practice grounding tools in the space that can be used with clients in the field

Engage in a collective visioning exercise
