  1. Understanding & Responding to Serious Mental Illness in Older Adults

    November 21, 2013 - 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM ET

    There are multiple psychiatric conditions that co-exist with dementia in the elderly.

    Some are primary conditions while others are secondary to dementia.

    Assessment tools include a thorough evaluation, lab and imaging studies, testing, and collateral report from family/caregivers. There are many possible treatments including pharmacological, behavioral, and educational interventions both for the individuals and their caregivers. This presentation will examine the origins of psychoses, delusions, and hallucinations in older adults, the differential diagnosis process, and various treatment approaches to working with this population and with their caregivers.

    Learn how to request payments to Human Subjects in appreciation of their participation in your study. Also learn how to document the payments in a manner that complies with regulations imposed by outside sources. Learn about the various "Tier" assignments, and what documentation is required for each.   4. Career Services presents "Networking and Lunch with Alumnus Victoria Peebles"

    The School of Social Work Career Services Office is hosting a lunch with alumnus Victoria Peebles, Research Analyst for Mathematica Policy Research in Ann Arbor, on Thursday, November 21st from 1:00-2:00 pm in B798 SSWB. Ms. Peebles will be talking about her career in evaluation and research as well as discussing career opportunities for Mathematica's upcoming recruitment season beginning early next year.   5. Michigan Association for Evaluation Coffee Break Discussion Series

    November 22, 2013 - 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM ET

    The Michigan Association for Evaluation (MAE) will be hosting regional coffee breaks to provide local evaluators the opportunity to meet each other, network, and discuss a current evaluation article or issue.  Coffee breaks will be held 2-3 times a year.  No RSVP is necessary.

    This is a great opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to network with local evaluators and learn more about what is happening in the evaluation field.
