The Alliance of Progressive Social Workers believes that the current approaches and standards of social work and social work education are not sufficient to eradicate the intersections of institutionalized racism, sexism, and classism that shape our lives and the lives of our clients. Consequently, we advocate for a new, more critical perspective that will allow us to be true advocates and allies to our clients by closely examining the root causes of oppression and inequality within a system that is inherently unjust, unfair, and unsustainable.

The Child Welfare Learning Community, Community Organizing Learning Community, and the Student Union are co-hosting a forum about the policies and national developments related to Gun Control Reform. There will be a panel of policy experts, SSW faculty, and community representatives to discuss the developments, the impact it has on social work practice and education, and work with attendees to develop policy recommendations. A lecture by Ram Cnaan, Associate Dean for Research School of Social Work, University of Pennsylvania

Cnaan is a world-renowned expert in studying faith-based social services. He carried out the first national study on the role of local religious congregations in the provision of social services as well as the first one-city census of congregations.

This event will be an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to come together to discuss school events and collectively brainstorms ways to improve the school. A light dinner will be served.
