to

The ACT Raising Safe Kids Program 2-day Facilitator Training is the introductory training to prepare child and family professionals to conduct the 9-week parenting training program, ACT Raising Safe Kids, developed and coordinated by the APA Violence Prevention Office. The program is designed to have trained and certified professionals (ACT Facilitators) prepared to disseminate the program research-based curriculum and teach positive parenting skills and practices that create safe, nurturing, stable environments that prevent child maltreatment and its long term health, cognitive and behavioral consequences for children. The curriculum is based on knowledge about child development, the importance of relationships because abuse and violence happen in the context of relationships and the effectiveness of positive parenting skills and practices to prevent abuse.

In this mini-course Dr. Lee will conduct the 2-day training, which is designed to provide the skills for individuals to implement the ACT group-based program as facilitators with parents and community members. At this workshop, participants will acquire - through practice and simulations - the skills for how to teach parents the ACT program curriculum using motivational interviewing approach, supportive materials, facilitated discussions, group activities, role-plays, case studies, and pre-and-post-evaluation materials. This is a manualized course. The ACT program facilitator training materials are provided by the American Psychological Association.

The ACT Raising Safe Kids Program was designed to prevent child abuse, using an interactive, strengths-based format in which parents build a supportive community while learning how to use nurturing, positive parenting and reduce negative discipline practices. Parents also learn about stages of development, strategies for emotion regulation, and methods to prevent violence.

Registration for this course is closed. Visit the CE Course Catalog for more offerings.
