Prospective Students

  1. When is the application deadline for the Joint PhD Program?

    All applications and supporting materials must be received by the application deadline of November 18th each year, for admission the following fall term. We admit students only once a year, and all applications are considered at the same time.

  2. While not my chief goal, if going into Clinical Science, is there a path to licensure either through social work or psychology?

    Graduates are required to complete the MSW degree, and can become licensed. Social Work and Clinical Psychology graduates are not eligible for clinical psychology license due to the research based nature of the PhD program. Please reach out to the Department of Psychology for verification.

  3. Why should I apply to the Joint PhD Program?

  4. Would choosing a discipline in psychology qualify graduates to sit for the psychology state clinical licenses?

    Due to the research nature of our program, typically graduates would not be qualified for licensure, but for specific information, please refer to the Department of Psychology at lsa-grad-ed@umich.edu.

  5. Would graduates of this program have two doctorate degrees or PhDs?

    Your PhD degree would be one degree, listed as an Interdisciplinary PhD in Social Work and ________.
