Courses in the online program are both synchronous and asynchronous. Per online course each week, students should expect 2 hours of synchronous live course sessions, and around 6.5 hours of asynchronous content (for example: assignments, readings, mini-lectures, videos, discussion boards).
No, online students are not required to come to Ann Arbor. Online students are able to enroll in an on-campus course if they are able to attend in-person. Online students are also invited to participate in the in-person graduation ceremony upon completion of the MSW degree. An online streaming option is also available for commencement.
Yes, beginning Winter 2023 students in the Online MSW program will be able to take the courses needed for school social work certification. Students will also need to talk with the Office of Field Education to ensure that the field placement qualifies for school social work certification.
Students completing the Online MSW Program must follow the Interpersonal Practice in Integrated Health, Mental Health, and Substance Abuse Pathway. Additional pathways may be added to the Online Program in the future.
Yes! We plan to offer the Welfare of Children & Families pathway beginning in Fall 2024. We may offer additional pathways following that addition.
Full-time online students enroll in 14-16 credits each semester for 3 semesters to complete the 45-credit degree program. This includes credits for field placement hours.
Standard full-time field schedule represents 3 days (24 hours) per week in field over 2 consecutive terms.
Part-time online students enroll in 5-7 credits each semester for 7 semesters to complete the 45-credit degree program. This includes credits for field placement hours.
Standard part-time field schedule represents 2 days (16 hours) per week in field over 3 consecutive terms.
Online MSW courses for full-time students will be offered primarily during the day (EST) during the week. Students living outside of the Eastern Time Zone will need to make accommodations to attend courses during their listed times.
Field placement hours will need to be scheduled to allow for class attendance.
