Emma Gross is a social work resident at the University of Michigan, preparing for doctoral work in the joint program in Social Work and Developmental Psychology. Her research is focused on gender identity development and factors contributing to understanding and acceptance or rejection of a gender nonconformity, particularly in families. She is also interested in research seeking to identify and reduce disparities in LGBTQ health and mental health. Prior to her doctoral studies, Emma obtained an MSW from Simmons University, and worked providing individual and group therapy to homeless, low-income, and LGBTQ clients in New York City and Rhode Island.
