Brazil Theater Exchange: Innovation for social work education

Self-referential drama and theater for social change strengthens introspective healing, empathy and dialog across differences (WHO, 2020). Drama techniques, used in the classroom, can prepare social workers to overcome service barriers and enhance advocacy-. But current efforts are seldom documented or evaluated – they are not replicable. We propose the Brazil Theater Exchange: Innovation for social work education (“Brazil Exchange”), a project to develop/evaluate theater methods for social work education. Outputs include (1) two short 30-40-minute theater-based workshops and (2) a 15-20-minute video to be used as accompaniment to the two workshops. The workshops/video can be integrated into Social Work Practice and Human Behavior courses, etc. Brazil Exchange will take place in the United States (US), but outputs will be translated into Portuguese and Spanish to be used in other countries.
