Avery Markel

Avery Markel is a case manager/counselor at Jewish Family and Career Services in Louisville, Kentucky where she lives with her husband and their menagerie of pets. A metro-Detroit native with stops throughout the midwest and mid south, Avery’s interest in social work sparked during her year in Chicago with AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corps, where she worked at The ARK, a Jewish social service agency. JCLP gave Avery the opportunity to explore Jewish values as they relate to social work, as well as a unique historic context. In JCLP, Avery studied Interpersonal Practice and completed field work at Jewish Family Service of Metro Detroit. JCLP continues to provide a space for Avery to explore the Jewish communal response to social issues and has allowed her to consider her future role in that response.
