    Professor Kathleen Coulborn Faller presented "Working with Developmentally Challenged Parents in the Child Welfare System" and "Allegations of Child Sexual Abuse and Divorce at the Mid-Atlantic Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect.

    Associate Dean Jorge Delva Panelist on Farmworker Justice: The Harvest/La Cosecha

    Associate Dean Jorge Delva was a panelist for the screening of the documentary "The Harvest/La Cosecha" hosted by the U-M Hatcher Graduate Library. The panel discussed justice issues affecting migrant workers and child labor in the U.S.

    Curtis Center Program Evaluation Group Presents at American Evaluation Association Conference

    The Curtis Center Program Evaluation Group presented twice at the American Evaluation Association national conference in Washington, DC on October 16-19.

    Staff member Laura Sundstrom and MSW/MPH student Nick Yankey presented on a panel titled "Creating Infrastructure for Experiential Learning and Practical Skill Development for Novice Evaluators" on the implementation of and experience with the Curtis Center Program Evaluation Group.

    Staff members Jeremy Gaertner and Desiree Liwosz presented a poster titled "Re-tooling Michigan's Child Support Enforcement: Using Predictive Modeling and Supportive Methods in Michigan's Child Support System to Increase the Financial Well-being of Children and Self-Sufficiency of Families" on the progress and preliminary results from the Re-tooling Michigan's Child Support Enforcement Program project through the Curtis Center Program Evaluation Group.

    PhD Student Guillermo Sanhueza Organized First Conference on Prisoners' Rights in Latin America

    PhD student, Guillermo Sanhueza organized the first conference on prisoners' human rights in Latin America in Santiago, Chile, on October 16-17. The conference brought prison experts from around the world together to promote good practices in penitentiary contexts. Guillermo Sanhueza also presented his evaluation work Results of the First Survey on Inmates’ Perception of Quality of Prison Life.

    Assistant Professor Reuben Miller Lectures in Glasgow, Scotland and Bratislava, Slovakia

    Reuben Miller will lecture at the University of Glasgow on Devolving the Carceral State: Race, Reentry and the Micro-politics of Urban Poverty Management.  Later in the month he is in Bratislava, Slovakia presenting at a Desistance Research Work Group.

    Assistant Professor Luke Shaefer discusses poverty and the job market with the Wall Street Journal.

    Research by Assistant Professor Desmond Patton Published in Boston Magazine and USA Today

    Assistant Professor, Desmond Patton's research on the relationship between gangs' activity on social media outlets such as Twitter, to violence on the streets is cited in Boston Magazine and USA Today. Patton intends to collaborate with Henry Lieberman, Principal Research Scientist at the MIT Media Lab to map his findings on gang violence and social media to determine the rate at which gang/community violence is occurring.

    MSW Student Jerrica Delaney Awarded Scholarship

    Jerrica Delaney, is the recipient of a celebrated scholarship given annually by the Buffalo Association of Black Social Workers.  The association will host its annual Scholarship and Awards Dinner on Saturday, September 28, in Buffalo, New York.  She is one of six to be honored for her contributions to the community.
