MSW Program Grants and Scholarships

  1. Global Activities Scholars Program

    Application Deadlines:

    • Early Application: December 1
    • Priority Application: February 1

    The Global Activities Scholars Program is a unique opportunity for students interested in working with individuals, communities, and organizations in a global context as part of their MSW program. Up to six incoming students will be selected each year to complete a global field placement during the spring/summer term. The purpose of the program is to provide students committed to global social work practice an opportunity to live in a foreign country while completing a part of their field placement requirement. This program is open to students in all practice method concentrations and practice areas except for students who select the Interpersonal Practice and Mental Health combination. Please note: Placements for Interpersonal Practice and Social Policy and Evaluation are limited.

  2. Graduate Scholarship Program-National Association of Junior Auxiliaries, Inc

    Deadline: February 1, 2019 Application available September 1-February 1, 2019

    The Graduate Scholarship is provided for graduate study in fields, which address the special needs of children and youth.

  3. Graduate Student Research Award-American Society on Aging

    Deadline: October 18, 2019

    The Graduate Student Research Award is provided to the best unpublished graduate research paper on a completed project relevant to aging and applicable to practice.

  4. Gus Harrison Scholarship in Social Work and Public Administration

    Application Deadline: September 2021

    This scholarship was established by Dr. John R. Koza in honor of Gus Harrison. It is awarded to a student in social work or public administration who exemplifies the dedication to public service and integrity that has been illustrated by Gus Harrison's service to the State of Michigan Department of Corrections and the Michigan State Lottery.

    This application will be available in August 2021.

  5. Harold T. and Vivian B. Shapiro Prize

    This Fund was established by Harold T. and Vivian B. Shapiro. The Prize is awarded annually, and recognizes the distinguished achievement of a student in the MSW and PhD program.

  6. Havens-Cabin Field Education Fund

    Application Deadline: September 2021

    This fund was established by alumnus William Cabin, and Susan Havens Lang. The fund is named in honor of Susan's father, Vern Havens, and William's father, Saul Cabin, who believed a strong work ethic and treating people fairly were the keys to a successful and meaningful life. This fund is for field stipends to support MSW students who have significant financial need, and whose field placement are in southeast Michigan.

    This application will be available in August 2021.

  7. Health Professions Scholarship-Indian Health Service

    The Health Professions Scholarship is awarded to qualified American Indian and Alaska Native graduate level students.

  8. Hispanic Scholarship Fund

    The Hispanic Scholarship is designed to assist students of Hispanic heritage obtain a college degree.

  9. Howard and Judith Sims Endowed Fellowship in Child & Youth

    This fellowship was established by Howard and Judith Sims along with matching funds provided by the Ann and Robert Lurie Family Foundation to reward deserving students interested in child welfare and specializing in children and families.

  10. Howard Brabson Scholarship

    This MSW Scholarship was established by donors in memory of Howard Brabson in recognition for his leadership, service and commitment to his students. Please note that no separate financial aid application is required.
