UMich200 Fall Festival: SSW Celebrates Bicentennial with Social Justice Art

to

The Third Century Expo is the bicentennial finale during the UMich200 Fall Festival. It will be a public fair of cutting-edge projects and initiatives that demonstrate how the University is making a positive impact on society, both locally and globally. The School of Social Work, in collaboration with the Social Justice Art Festival, will have an exhibit on the Diag as well as activities in the School of Social Work building.

Fair-goers will have the opportunity to:

  • participate in the creation of a collage expressing social justice. The theme is "Leave the World a Little Better Than You Found It." Participants can create an origami flower and then print how they will "Leave the World a Little Better Than They Found It," or print their words on a pre-made flower.
  • Take a docent-led tour of the SSW art collection beginning in the McGregor Commons in the School of Social Work Building.
  • View the new mobile website highlighting the social justice pieces in the SSW Art Collection.
  • Mingle with friends, faculty and coworkers.

The Social Justice Art collage and other activities aim to explore how art can be used as a tool to promote social justice and encourage dialogue among community members, social work students, and the University of Michigan family at large.
