Student Health Insurance Plan

The University of Michigan encourages all students to have health insurance. If you need insurance coverage, the Domestic Student Health Insurance Plan (DSHIP) through Blue Care Network of Michigan (BCN) has generous benefits at a reasonable cost.

Insurance cost for an individual student for the 2024-25 insurance plan year (coverage dates 8/24/24 - 8/23/25) is $2987. Deadline for purchase is Sept. 30, 2024.

  • This insurance plan provides coverage with a wide array of benefits, including: clinic visits, prescription medication, annual vision exam, hospitalization, emergency care, limited dental benefits and more.
  • Annual deductible is only $100 for in-network care and $100 for out-of-network care.
  • In-network coverage is available throughout the U.S. with Blue Cross Blue Shield participating providers.
  • This plan is available to U-M students studying on campus and those who are studying remotely.
  • DSHIP is available to enrolled U-M students and their spouses, domestic partners, and dependents under the age of 26 (if the student is enrolled in the plan).
  • Questions about DSHIP can be sent to [email protected]

Tuition Insurance is also available to U-M students. The cost for tuition insurance is less than 1% of a student's tuition and covers up to 75% of tuition for students who must completely withdraw from a semester due to an illness or injury. In addition, please review important information on the Health Service Fee and University Health Services (UHS):

Note that students in the Online MSW Program do not pay the health service fee, but may be eligible to purchase the UHS Prepaid Plan if they wish to use UHS services.
