Acceptance of Admission

Admission is granted for a specific term. Admitted students must confirm their plans to attend the University of Michigan School of Social Work by submitting a non-refundable $300 enrollment deposit by the specified date or their admission is subject to cancellation. Specific details regarding the payment of the enrollment deposit will be included with the offer of admission letter. If an applicant chooses not to enroll in the term for which admission was granted, the admission is withdrawn. The School of Social Work will consider written requests to defer an admission offer for up to two years. Reasons for the request should be stated clearly. Requests may be emailed to [email protected]. The applicant will be notified, in writing, of the decision.

Tentative Admission

Regular admission is granted when all requirements for admission to the MSW program are satisfied. Tentative admission is granted contingent on meeting specific conditions outlined in the letter of admission. Tentative admission may be granted for the following conditions or other conditions as stated on an admission letter:

• Qualified applicants are admitted prior to the completion of their remaining bachelor's degree requirements. Undergraduate degree requirements must be satisfactorily completed prior to enrollment in the MSW Program, and an official/final transcript that bears the posted degree must be received in our office prior to registration for the first term. Please note that academic grades earned after an offer of admission must be satisfactory or may be cause for cancellation of admission or withdrawal from the School.
• Qualified applicants hold a bachelor's degree or the equivalent from a foreign institution.
• Qualified applicants are admitted under the Provisions for Non-Baccalaureate Degree Applicants.
• Qualified applicants have not acquired the minimum credit hours for the liberal arts content requirement. The liberal arts requirement must be met prior to the start of fall term.

Tentative admission is allowed only for one term of study and will be changed to regular admission upon satisfactory performance and/or the fulfillment of any special admission requirement(s) specified. Failure to fulfill requirement(s) as stated in an offer of admission letter may result in cancellation of admission or withdrawal from the School.
