    Lloyd Shelton is U-M NASW Student of the Year

    Congratulations go out to Lloyd Shelton who has been selected as the 2015 University of Michigan NASW Student of the Year.

    Student Social Workers of the Year are selected based on the following criteria:

    • Demonstrated leadership qualities
    • Contribution to the positive image of a social work program
    • Commitment to political and community activities
    • Success in academic performance
    • Degree to which the student represents the professional ethics of social work as defined in the NASW Code of Ethics

    An awards ceremony will be held honoring all of the southeastern Michigan BSW and MSW program recipients. It is scheduled for Monday, March 16, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. and will be held at Oakland University.

    We would also like to congratulate fellow nominees, Grace Adofoli and Ashley Schwedt, all great candidates that were nominated this year.

    Jaclynn Hawkins Defends Dissertation, "Social Determinants of Diabetes Self-Management and Health Care Use in African American and Latino Men with Type 2 Diabetes"

    Jackie Hawkins successfully defended her dissertation entitled, "Social Determinants of Diabetes Self-Management and Health Care Use in African American and Latino Men with Type 2 Diabetes". She now holds a PhD in Social Work and Sociology and has accepted an Assistant Professor position with the School of Social Work at Michigan State University.

    Professor and Associate Dean Ruth Dunkle’s article, “Demographic and Socio Environmental Characteristics of Black and White Community-Dwelling Caregivers and Care Recipients’ Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia” was published in Research in Gerontological Nursing.

    Brian Perron's Book, "Key Concepts in Measurement" Published by Oxford University Press

    Associate Professor Brian Perron’s book, "Key Concepts in Measurement” was published by Oxford University Press. The book was co-written with his colleague, David Gillespie, Emeritus Professor at Washington University in St. Louis.

    Professor Larry Gant was cited in the Michigan Daily article, "Paige Pfleger: Tyree Guyton's 'Inextinguishable' Heidelberg Project". He was a panelist at "Inextinguishable: A Conversation with Detroit Artist Tyree Guyton", hosted by the U-M Museum Studies Program.
