    Carrie Disney Selected to Receive Research Administrator Recognition Award from U-M Office of Research

    Research Administration Coordinator Carrie Disney was selected to receive a 2017 Research Administrator Recognition Award from the U-M Office of Research. The award honors staff members for important contributions to the University’s research mission through exceptional performance and by going beyond the ordinary fulfillment of position duties.

    Carrie Disney and Scott Stanfill are Certified Research Administrators

    Carrie Disney, Research Process Coordinator and Scott Stanfill, Research Services Manager have completed and passed the certified research administrators exam. The exam is managed by the Research Administrators Certification Council an independent professional organization. The core content for the certificate emphasizes: leadership development, research administration, research and faculty development, innovation, economic development, integrity and stewardship. There are 20 Certified Research Administrators (CRA) on the three U-M campuses, SSW has 10% of U-M's CRAs.

    LEO Lecturer Adrienne Dessel, U-M alumni Amy Westmoreland, and Professor Lorraine Gutiérrez's article, "Reducing Heterosexism in African American Christian Students: Effects of Multicultural Education Courses", was published in Equity and Excellence in Education. The study examines the effectiveness of different approaches to teaching students about diversity, equity, and social justice.

    Professors Lorraine Gutierrez and Linda Chatters were ranked high impact female social work scholars in the article, “Citation Impact of Women in Social Work: Exploring Gender and Research Culture” which was published in Research on Social Work Practice.

    Associate Professor Andrew Grogan-Kaylor’s recently published a meta-analysis examining the research on spanking and its effects on children which has been cited in numerous media outlets.

    Jorge Delva Appointed as Faculty Associate to Latina/o Studies Program in Department of American Culture

    Associate Dean and Professor Jorge Delva has been appointed as a Faculty Associate of the Latina/o Studies Program in U-M's Department of American Culture (LSA). He will be conducting research to eliminate health disparities.

    Assistant Professor Daphne Watkins Research is Utilizing Facebook for Interventions

    Professor Daphne C. Watkins’ current research involves developing and testing an intervention she developed called the Young black men, masculinities, and mental health (or, "YBMen") project. The YBMen project is a five-week, Facebook-based intervention for college-aged black men that addresses the association between hegemonic masculinity and poor mental health."
