Associate Professor Shawna Lee's article "Promising intervention strategies to reduce parents’ use of spanking and physical punishment" was published in Child Abuse & Neglect.
Professor Daniel Saunders' article, "Evaluating the evaluators: Research-based guidance for attorneys regarding custody evaluations in cases involving domestic abuse" was published in Michigan Family Law Journal.
Assistant Professor David Córdova's project, "Preventing HIV/STI in Urban Adolescents via an mHealth Primary Care Intervention" was funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse. The purpose of this research is to develop a cross-platform and universal version of Storytelling 4 Empowerment, an interactive, tailored and targeted mobile health intervention. The project will examine its preliminary efficacy in preventing and reducing drug use and condomless sex, and improving HIV and STI testing in at-risk adolescents.
Assistant Professor Kristin Seefeldt's op-ed, "We need to fix the social safety net, not shame those who need it" was published in PBS Newshour.
Associate Professors Shawna Lee and Andy Grogan-Kaylor's article, "Spanking and Adult Mental Health Impairment: The Case for the Designation of Spanking as an Adverse Childhood Experience" was published in Child Abuse & Neglect.
Lorraine Gutiérrez, Professor of Social Work, School of Social Work, Arthur F Thurnau Professor, Professor of Psychology, College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, will receive the 2017 Teaching and Mentoring in Qualitative Inquiry Award from the American Psychological Association. This award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring within the field of qualitative inquiry. She is the Director of the School of Social Work Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Program and is a fellow at the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare.
