Carmen E. Wargel

Carmen E. Wargel, LMSW, MSW '04, is a social change strategy nerd. She brings humanity to our social systems to make them more equitable. As the Deputy Director of Systemic Advocacy at a legal aid organization, she leads interdisciplinary legal services to bridge the justice gap in our civil legal system. Wargel is a systems thinker and interdisciplinarian at heart. She constantly makes connections between people, ideas and strategies to increase social justice for us all. In her previous position, she spent 17 years improving community responses to survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence and human trafficking. Throughout her career, she has focused on collaboration and impactful change. She serves on the Justice for All Commission of the Michigan Supreme Court as well as on a workgroup for the Michigan Judicial Council.

Research Interests/Focus

Carmen E. Wargel, MSW ’04, is a social justice community organizer and strategist committed to shifting power to build equitable systems.
