Erin M. Khang serves as the Director of Field Education and clinical assistant professor at the School of Social Work. She earned her MSSA degree from the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University.
Khang’s professional background is rooted in extensive clinical experience at both the Cleveland Clinic and University of Michigan Health (Michigan Medicine), where she practiced for over 19 years. Her clinical background spans care across the lifespan in complex medical settings, including bone marrow transplant, solid organ transplant and pediatric nephrology. During her tenure at University of Michigan Health, she held several key leadership roles, including MSW Field Director, MSW Clinical Manager across multiple inpatient and outpatient settings, and Social Work Liaison for electronic health record implementation, workflow optimization, and clinical documentation practices.
In addition to her clinical and administrative work, Khang has been a leader in institutional equity, inclusion, and innovation. She served as the inaugural Michigan Medicine Social Work Department Diversity Co-Chair, leading strategic initiatives and supporting culture change to foster meaningful dialogue around complex issues. This work contributed to her collaboration with other health system leaders in the development and co-leadership of the innovative Healthcare Equity Consult Service.
Recognized for her contributions to interprofessional education and clinical practice, Khang was accepted as a National Academies of Practice Distinguished Fellow of the Social Work Academy in 2024. Her core areas of interest include healthcare equity and interprofessional education and research.
