  2. CommuniTea with Justin Hodge

    Please join us for our October CommuniTea with Clinical Associate Professor of Social Work at the University of Michigan, Justin Hodge! Hodge co-leads the Policy & Political Social Work Pathway, directs the Online Certificate in Political Social Work, and was elected to the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners in November 2020. He focuses on addressing local inequities and promoting economic opportunity and serves in state and national roles to expand social workers' participation in policy, while also bridging clinical and macro social work for students.

  3. Half-Baked Research (Wholly Baked Pizza)

    The Associate Dean of Research is hosting a Half-Baked Brown Bag for Faculty and Doctoral Students to share their early-stage ideas with peers for feedback. Please join Elizabeth Evans (ISR Research Faculty and recent SSW Lecturer) and Sunghyun Hong (doctoral student) (15 min each) followed by a 30 min discussion (each). Pizza and drinks provided.   6. Community Conversation: The Environmental Justice Movement

    October 22, 2024 - 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM ET

    We invite you to a Community Conversation about the environmental justice movement.  Environmental justice is an urgent issue that impacts us all. We encourage participants to explore their connection to environmental justice in both their personal and professional lives, reflecting on how inequalities affect communities and how we can advocate for a more sustainable and just future. 

    This is a time for open dialogue – to express feelings, raise concerns, and find support as a community.

    About the Format

    With these smaller Community Conversations, our goal is to create a restorative space where we can share experiences and learn from one another. The discussion will be guided by practices from intergroup dialogue and restorative justice. We look forward to seeing you there!

  7. DDP Access Audit Virtual Training

    October 23, 2024 - 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM ET

    This training is required if you signed up to conduct access audits with Detroit Disability Power during the general elections. 

    All access audit volunteers: if you signed up to conduct access audits with Detroit Disability Power (DDP) during the general elections, this training is required. This training will be conducted by DDP's Advocacy Director, Eric Welsby, via zoom on 10/23, from 6 pm-7:30 pm. Needed information regarding the access audits and serving as an election observer will be provided. Another training for access audits is occurring at the school on 10/18, 12-2 pm. Students only have to attend one of these trainings.

    Volunteers will conduct access audits either at ballot drop boxes prior to the election (but after attending this training), during the 9 days of early voting from 10/26 to 11/3, or on elections day, November 5th, 2024. 

    To receive field credit for engaging in this opportunity, you must receive approval from your field faculty instructor.

  8. Coffee Hour Event: Socialize and Celebrate with the DEI Office

    October 24, 2024 - 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM ET

    Join us for our monthly Coffee Hour, an event for social work students to come together, socialize, and engage in meaningful conversations. Hosted by the DEI office, these sessions provide an excellent opportunity to observe and celebrate various monthly themes in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

    Enjoy a selection of tea, coffee, and assorted snacks while connecting with your peers and celebrating the unique themes of each month. Whether it's recognizing cultural heritage, social justice issues, or seasonal festivities, each Coffee Hour will be a chance to learn, share, and build community.

  9. Dialogue Deck: What Does It Mean to Be American? Embracing Differences of Beliefs Through Productive Dialogue
