  1. DDP Access Audit Virtual Training

    October 23, 2024 - 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM ET

    This training is required if you signed up to conduct access audits with Detroit Disability Power during the general elections. 

    All access audit volunteers: if you signed up to conduct access audits with Detroit Disability Power (DDP) during the general elections, this training is required. This training will be conducted by DDP's Advocacy Director, Eric Welsby, via zoom on 10/23, from 6 pm-7:30 pm. Needed information regarding the access audits and serving as an election observer will be provided. Another training for access audits is occurring at the school on 10/18, 12-2 pm. Students only have to attend one of these trainings.

    Volunteers will conduct access audits either at ballot drop boxes prior to the election (but after attending this training), during the 9 days of early voting from 10/26 to 11/3, or on elections day, November 5th, 2024. 

    To receive field credit for engaging in this opportunity, you must receive approval from your field faculty instructor.

  2. Substance-Exposed Infants and the Risk of Subsequent Maltreatment

    October 24, 2024 - 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM ET

    Parental substance use disorders increase the risk of child maltreatment and placement in foster care in part by compromising appropriate parenting practices and creating an environment that is not responsive to the needs of children. Substance use was second only to mental health as the most frequently identified risk factor for child maltreatment. Estimates from the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) indicate that the prevalence of parental substance use disorders as an identified condition of removal more than doubled between 2000 and 2019, and that 50% of children under the age of one placed in foster care were removed for reasons related to parental substance use...

  4. Subpoenas: What Social Workers Need To Know

    October 25, 2024 - 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM ET

    This ethics-focused webinar looks at the following:

    1. What subpoenas are and are not
    2. What kinds of cases and settings where subpoenas may be used
    2. Releases of information, which are outside of a subpoena but require social workers to respond ethically
    3. How the NASW Code of Ethics guides us
    4. When and how to respond to subpoenas

    In addition, we will discuss several ethical dilemmas related to subpoenas and requests for information.

  6. CASC Board Blankets of Hope Community Event

    October 28, 2024 - 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM ET

    Please join the CASC Board in crafting tie-blankets for different Washtenaw County organizations! The CASC Board works hard each semester to build community engagement, community support, and be agents of change within each community they are involved in. We would love to have MSW and Undergraduate students collaborate to create blankets, notes, and spend time in community. Snacks, drinks, and all materials will be provided. We hope to see you there!
