Self-Care for Social Workers Workshop
March 28, 2025 - 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET
Self-care is a professional and ethical obligation for social workers. What does it look like to engage in regular, intentional, effective self-care? In this 60-minute workshop, we will explore what self-care looks like in practice and share specific strategies to manage stress and improve well-being. Students who attend this session may count this workshop as field hours with approval from their field instructor. Interested students can sign up for the workshop at the link below and will receive a zoom invite the day of the event.
This workshop is for enrolled students in the School of Social Work only.

SSW Commencement Information Session for May 2025 Graduates - Virtual
March 31, 2025 - 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM ET
This online session for students graduating in May 2025 will provide the opportunity to learn more about the School of Social Work commencement proceedings! Topics covered will include Day-of ceremony information and the opportunity to ask questions.
All registered attendees will receive a recording of the session.
Note: Our School of Social Work ceremony is separate from the main university ceremony held at Michigan Stadium. The information covered in this presentation will only pertain to the School of Social Work ceremony.

Trans* Day Of Visibility

The School of Social Work FLOURISH Office invites you to celebrate the trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming communities at our annual event for Trans* Day of Visibility!
Trans* Day of Visibility (TDOV) takes place on March 31st each year. TDOV is a day dedicated to celebrating the strength, resilience, and achievements of the transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming communities. Join us for a TDOV celebration featuring lunch, trans* trivia, and a keynote address. Both members of the trans* community and allies are encouraged to attend this celebration.
For those joining online, a Zoom link will be provided after registration and shortly before the event.

We invite you to a Community Conversation around Beauty Standards via Zoom.
Beauty standards are woven into our existence whether we conform to them, challenge them, or feel caught somewhere in between. These standards shape our self-perception, influence how we move through the world, and intersect with identity in complex ways. How do age, race, gender identity, and other aspects of who we are impact our relationship to beauty? What pressures exist, and what unspoken expectations shape the way we see ourselves and each other?

Join us for a community conversation to discuss the international student experience and explore some of the challenges and realities of adjusting to life in a new cultural context. What added complexities of living, studying, and managing personal life do international students navigate? What are the perceptions of international students on campus and in the School of Social Work? We can also discuss feelings of homesickness and belonging, and explore ways to find a grounded sense of place in a new home.

The mixer aims to create mentorship opportunities, provide valuable career advice, and strengthen the Detroit Scholars community. With professional headshots, networking discussions, and insights on navigating post-school life, this event is designed to help you build connections that will last long after graduation.

2025 IMPACT Awards
April 7, 2025 - 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM ET
The IMPACT Awards honors outstanding SSW students, faculty, staff, and student organizations who have demonstrated a strong commitment to enhancing our community and advancing the School of Social Work's Mission within the School of Social Work and/or the broader community. Up to three individuals and one group may receive this award.
Join us as we share a meal and celebrate the award recipients from 12 PM to 1 PM.
At 1 PM, the Self-Healing and Social Justice Art Collective will guide us through an interactive art-making experience, Dream Flag. In small groups, we will paint our dream flags, which will be displayed along with the Art Collective's work for the term.
This event will be held in person!
We look forward to celebrating the impactful work of our community!
Nomination Details:Open to all current SSW students, faculty, staff, and registered student organizations.
Individuals may self-nominate or be nominated by another person or group.
