2019 CASC graduate Kym Leggett has been named the 2019-2020 Dean’s Fellow for the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA). Leggett received her bachelor’s in sociology, a double minor in CASC and music. She also earned the CASC certificate in Poverty Solutions, Action & Engagement.
As a fellow, Leggett will work with a variety of departments within the dean’s office, assist with events and serve on committees during the year-long appointment. She’s particularly excited to work with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) office and has recently helped with the planning of the DEI Summit’s student diversity conference. “I’m using so much of what I learned in CASC about being able to connect and communicate across groups with different identities,” she says. “That’s really helped me, and it’s something I strive for in everything I do.”
Leggett expects the fellowship to provide her with a sampler of the various aspects of working in higher education. “Being able to work everyday on diversity with staff and faculty, and seeing how changes affect students and the community is really cool. It’s just so eye opening to see how change is happening from the top.”
