The goal of the Dow Sustainability Fellows program is to create a community of scholars devoted to developing and implementing innovative ideas in pursuit of sustainability. Each year, the program provides a select group of outstanding graduate students with the resources and opportunities necessary to become sustainability leaders in academia, business, non-profit organizations, and government. The group is selected to represent a balance of interests to enhance the interdisciplinary nature of the collaboration.

The Dow Sustainability Fellowship was a congruent fit with my background in permaculture, water harvesting and sustainable city infrastructure. I am currently working on a community permaculture house in Detroit, which is the basis for my team's project. The fellows will bring in vibrant energy and diverse interests to help move it forward.

I am excited to work with students from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds. I believe interdisciplinary work is truly a path that must be explored for us to find solutions to sustainability issues on Earth. I was proud to apply through the School of Social Work as a dual degree student with the School of Natural Resources and Environment in the hopes of sparking conversation within the SSW on sustainability, climate change, adaptation, and resiliency.

I discovered the Dow Sustainability Fellowship at U-M as a prospective student. The potential to tie my masters in social work to an interdisciplinary project exploring meaningful, sustainable solutions was a significant factor in my decision to attend the University of Michigan.
Sustainability is the perspective through which I envision the potentiality of community well-being. I am passionate about translating the principles and ethics of social work into the interdisciplinary framework of sustainability to strive toward economic, environmental, and social justice.
