JCLP Alumni
Emily Gordon works at Jewish Family Service of Metropolitan Detroit as coordinator of the new Caregiver Support Program, which provides tailored support and guidance to family caregivers. Emily feels honored to contribute to the health and strength of local Jewish and secular communities by helping create and develop the program and meeting with clients one-on-one. Emily was born and raised in northwest Ohio. She graduated summa cum laude from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Science in journalism and an interdepartmental minor in visual communication technology and ethnic studies. Prior to graduate school, Emily worked as a newspaper reporter and photographer in the Toledo area before shifting gears to nonprofit public relations and marketing at the Toledo Zoo & Aquarium and the Jewish Federation and Foundation of Greater Toledo. Emily’s longtime interest in tikkun olam (repair the world) and Jewish community programming led her to JCLP. There, she appreciated learning about the many ways in which Judaism and social justice intersect and how to keep that knowledge in mind while developing community programming. In her spare time, Emily enjoys reading, amateur photography, traveling, and taking her dogs on adventures.
