Kate Malekoff

Jewish Communal Leadership Program Class of 2016

Kate Malekoff is the Director of People and Operations at Safe Passage Project, a highly-focused nonprofit immigration legal services organization  providing free lawyers to refugee and immigrant children in the NYC-area. She worked at DREAM as the Volunteer Coordinator, Talent Operations Manager, and Director of Human Resources. She graduated with a BA in Urban Studies and Sociology from the University of Pittsburgh and later worked for Carnegie Mellon University. Kate's field placement while in JCLP was with Jewish Family Service of Metro Detroit, where she worked with community outreach and family case management. She is intrigued by the dual privilege and onus an American Jewish identity can bring, and how this intersection plays out in contemporary American issues. Kate is interested in a wide variety of issues, including school discipline, race in America, resettlement, and domestic violence. Kate served on the board of the Student Rights Project at the University, a project of law and social work students providing non-legal advocacy for low-income students facing expulsion or suspension in Southeast Michigan. She was also a Crisis Counselor with Crisis Text Line.
