Pinar Ustel, MSW '17, is a doctoral candidate in Social Work and Sociology. Her research focuses on patients' experience of mental health treatment and mobilization of informal/online networks to increase their well-being. Ustel is interested in equity-focused pedagogy in higher education and works as a graduate instructional consultant at the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT).

Production of knowledge about human distress and its treatment; Social and psychological meanings of psychiatric medication; Psychiatric drug withdrawal; Shared decision-making in mental health
Dissertation Title
Pending October 2024 I am starting a job at Grand Valley State University in August but will return to Ann Arbor for an in-person dissertation defense
