Anne Blumenthal is a doctoral candidate in the Joint Program in Social Work & Sociology. In her research, she uses a mix of qualitative and quantitative approaches to answer questions related to structural processes and determinants of child well-being.
Originally hailing from a small rural community in Oregon, Blumenthal worked in direct social services in both the U.S. and Canada before coming to Michigan. Her current research projects include: a study of resource access and parenting stress for mothers of young children during the lockdowns in spring 2020; a study examining correlates of accidental child deaths between 2000-2020; a study of gendered differences in children’s time use; and theoretical work on child neglect.
Her work has been published in the journals Child Welfare, Children and Youth Services Review, Child Indicators Research and Qualitative Social Work, among other outlets. The overarching motivation for her research is to inform policy conversations on concrete supports for marginalized families.
